The SCHERZO TRIO (skert-sō) is a classical music trio comprised of oboe, cello and piano based in South Florida. The literal Italian meaning of scherzo is joke, jest or a musical passage executed in a playful manner, which is a perfect description of these dynamic performers. The group is a twist on the traditional string trio, replacing the violin with the haunting sound of the oboe. As there are only a handful of works written specifically for this combination of instruments, the members enjoy the creative challenge of adapting music for the trio. The result is a lush combination of sound, unexplored by most composers. The Scherzo Trio prides itself on stylistically diverse programming, including virtuosic classical works, opera, ragtime, musicals, and cinematic music, appealing to audiences of all ages.
